Actually they don't.  One of the biggest hurdles in learning a language is jumping right in.  Most of our teachers speak at least a couple of languages, but it is really important that their communication is in Spanish (the target language).  The casual conversation with your teacher is rather like having a cup of coffee with a Spanish speaking friend.  It is very relaxed.
